Paul the Wombat
Oatmeal Stout • 6.4% ABV
Dark, roasty and velvety smooth. Paul brings together bittersweet chocolate, subtle roasted coffee and Australian Ella hops in a full-bodied American oatmeal stout.
Meet Paul
Paul is a wombat who appreciates the richer things in life.
He’s dependable, a little old-school and not particularly interested in following the crowd. Give him a comfortable seat, a proper pint and enough time to enjoy both, and he’s perfectly content.
Paul may be one of the darker characters in the Wisdom — at least when it comes to his beer — but underneath it all, he’s pretty smooth.
Just like his Oatmeal Stout.
Meet the Beer
Paul the Wombat Oatmeal Stout
Roasty, rich and jet black, Paul the Wombat is an American oatmeal stout built around layers of dark malt character.
Bittersweet chocolate leads the way, accompanied by subtle notes of roasted coffee. Australian Ella hops provide a refined bitterness that balances the richness of the dark malts without stealing the spotlight.
The result is a full-bodied stout with a smooth, velvety character and plenty of complexity from the first sip to the last.
At 6.4% ABV, Paul isn’t the lightest member of the Wisdom — and he wouldn’t have it any other way.

What’s in the Glass?
Bittersweet Chocolate
Rich dark malt character brings notes of bittersweet chocolate without turning Paul into a dessert beer.
Roasted Coffee
Subtle roasted coffee notes add another layer of depth to this jet-black stout.
Australian Ella
Ella hops bring a refined bitterness that balances the dark malt complexity while adding a little Aussie character to every pint.
Paul’s Kind of Pint
Paul isn’t in a hurry.
This is a beer for settling into a comfortable seat, having a good conversation and giving your pint enough time to enjoy it.
Rich, roasty and velvety smooth, Paul is proof that sometimes the darker side of the Wisdom is a pretty good place to be.
Why a Wombat?
A wisdom is a creative collective noun used to describe a group of wombats.
While these Australian marsupials are usually seen on their own, when they do gather, their group can be called a wisdom.
With our Australian roots a restaurant down Main Street called The Lost Wombat and a brewery named Wisdom, the wombats quickly became part of the story.
Paul just happens to prefer his Wisdom a little darker.
Be Wise. Live Like a Wombat.
Aussie Roots. North Carolina Brewed.
Wisdom Brewing brings together a little bit of Australia and a whole lot of North Wilkesboro.
Our beers are brewed right here in historic downtown North Wilkesboro, with Australian influences finding their way throughout the brewery. In Paul’s case, Australian Ella hops bring a little bit of those Aussie roots directly into the glass.
Local Beer. Aussie Roots.
Keep Exploring the Wisdom
Paul may prefer the dark side, but he’s only one member of a growing Wisdom.
